On April 1, 1936, Odisha became a separate province, after a long struggle of over three centuries. The day is celebrated as Utkal Divas in the memory of making Odisha as a separate state out of Bihar and Bengal. The state celebrates the day with a holiday. It is also known as Odisha day, foundation day of Odisha, Vishuva Milan. This year marks the 84th Utkal Divas.
The movement was powerful with the leadership of Utkala Gouraba Madhusudan Das, Utkala mani Gopabandhu Das,Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanj Deo, Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati,Pandita Nilakantha Das,Fakir Mohan Senapati,Gangadhar Meher, Radhanath Ray and many others with the support of the public.
The newly formed Odisha consisted of six districts namely(1)Cuttack,(2) Puri, (3)Baleswar,(4) Sambalpur,(5) Koraput and(6) Ganjam .In 1950,odisha became a constituent state of India. Orissa was renamed as Odisha by the Parliament of India on November 9, 2010 and also The Oriya language was simultaneously renamed as Odia language.
on this occasion of Utkal Divas the entire Odisha celebrate with joy for its great achievement, in that day, odiya food festival had organized.in the food festival, the main attraction is ethnic and odia dishes like Manda,Kakara, and Guguni .government will show the cultural program which comprises different songs,dances.but this year due to the of pandemic situation the celebration will not take place to maintain social distance.
